Private Searching

This is an issue we all confront. Some find it more important than others. While we at EI don’t yet use a Tor browser, we do prefer to keep from using search tools like Google, Bing, or Yahoo. Here you will find some of the resources available to keep from exposing your private information while perusing the web.

Start Page
StartPage gives you Google search results in complete privacy. Other search engines deliver results based on what they know about you rather than giving you equal access to the internet. In essence, you become trapped in a ‘filter bubble.’ Some call it personalization. Start Page calls it censorship.

Ixquick gives you anonymous meta-search results. Ixquick is just as private as StartPage, but gives you search results from numerous search engines (excluding Google).

What you search for is your own business and we’d like to keep it that way. That’s why we don’t collect any personal information and therefore, have none to share. Our search engine is more than just servers and an algorithm. Our community directly contributes to DuckDuckGo. Get involved in changing the future of search. It’s our goal to get you where you want to go in fewer clicks. We do that through instant answers, themes and !bangs. We have everything you’d expect and a whole lot more.

Wolfram|Alpha introduces a fundamentally new way to get knowledge and answers, not by searching the web, but by doing dynamic computations based on a vast collection of built-in data, algorithms, and methods.

This site doesn’t keep your search keywords to be used for ads or surveillance, offering ‘PowerSearch‘ commands that let you configure the search source and more. It is also known by an alternative name

Hulbee is the efficient alternative for anyone who attaches great importance to data integrity and the protection of privacy. Contrary to search engines, users at don’t leave any tracks. even does without countless analyses of their visitors. Their topics, IP addresses and personal information, are not stored or used for any additional business. All the servers are located in Switzerland and neither the US nor other data snoopers can get their hands on this information.

Disconnect doesn’t collect any of personal info, including IP address, other than information voluntarily provided. Disconnect won’t sell your personal info to advertisers or other third parties. Disconnect shares your personal info only when legally required, or when reasonably necessary to prevent harm in an emergency situation. Disconnect retains your personal info, excluding info you make public, for no more than 30 days after you request deletion.
